Horton was founded in 1951, originally focusing on the manufacturing of industrial clutches. Horton applied its clutch expertise to the cooling of on- and off-highway vehicles in the 1960s and later convinced truck manufacturers that they could save fuel by installing engine cooling fan drives on their vehicles during the U.S. energy crisis of the 1970s.
