Velvac began its long tradition of manufacturing air brake and valve components for heavy trucks in 1934 when it opened its doors as the Vacuum Power Equipment Company. The corporate name was changed to “Velvac” in 1940 in response to the popularity of the company’s Velvet Vacuum Brakes brand.

In the mid-1950s, Velvac started producing a range of “west coast” mirror heads for North American truck manufacturers, eventually becoming an OEM supplier of mirrors for General Motors in 1956. This kick-started Velvac’s growth and eventual leadership in supplying vision systems to the North American commercial vehicle market.

Since these early days, Velvac has grown and our product line has expanded. Velvac now manufactures over 4,500 popular vehicle components. The company is headquartered in New Berlin, Wisconsin, with a primary manufacturing facility in Reynosa, Mexico, directly across the Mexico/U.S. border from McAllen, TX.
